At Henley in Arden School, we believe that high standards of appearance support high standards of behaviour, learning and achievement. Our uniform is more than just clothing – it is a symbol of our shared identity, our sense of belonging and the pride that we take in our school community.

 

We expect every student to wear their uniform correctly and present themselves smartly at all times, both in school and when travelling to and from the site. Consistent expectations help to create an inclusive environment where students are judged by their character and actions rather than by fashion or appearance, reducing unnecessary distractions and allowing everyone to focus on learning.

 

Our standards extend beyond clothing to include jewellery, make-up, hairstyles, nails and other aspects of personal presentation. These expectations are in place to promote safety, equality, professionalism and readiness for school life. We ask parents and carers to support us by ensuring that students arrive each day wearing the correct uniform and equipped for learning.

Appearance

 

There are a number of regulations aimed at preserving high standards.  Pupils or parents are advised to ask before rather than after about specifics if there is likely to be any doubt.  School is not the place for fashion clothing.

• Jewellery is not permitted, except a watch and one small, plain ear stud per ear.
• Make-up is not acceptable in lower years; if make-up is worn by older pupils, it must be subtle and not noticeable. If make-up is considered too obvious, your child will be asked to remove it.
• Boots, trainers, open-backed or heels more than 2 inches are not permitted.  If pupils attend in inappropriate footwear, the school has a selection of black pumps that can be worn for the day.
• Hairstyles should be neat and tidy.  Fashion variations NOT acceptable include ridged haircuts and excessive use of styling products or colour, dyes, dip dyes.  This list is not exhaustive.
• All items should be named.
• “Hoodies” should NOT be worn or brought into school at all.
• Normal, dark navy, dark grey or black outdoor coats are acceptable but NOT denim, leather or brightly/multicoloured styles
• All pupils require a suitable bag for carrying and storage of lesson materials, school books and PE clothing
